CURRENCY


It's better to take roubles with you, but if you have any foreign currency the best places to change money are in Sberbank bank offices that are scattered around the city.
In Novgorod ATMs can be found in banks, or at the 24-hour phone office in front of the Kremlin.


PRICES


Novgorod is a cheap town. You can get accommodation from 100 roubles ($3.5) for a person (in a cheap hotel) to $17 a person in fancy 3-star hotels. The food will cost not more than 100 roubles a day ($3.5) if you want to save, and around 150 roubles ($5 a day) if you eat in the restaurants. Transportation around the city is 3 roubles ($0.1) for a bus. A visit to museums costs around 20 roubles for a foreigner. Phone calls cost 1 rouble a minute (from the public phones), phone calls to Moscow and other cities of central Russia cost around 5 roubles ($0.15).

POST BASICS


If you want to send something by post from Russia, you can do it either through government post service or courier services - the difference is price and speed.



STATE POST SERVICE


You should buy the post stamps at the post offices, which you can find by "Ïî÷òà" (Pochta) sign. It costs around 12 roubles (0.5$) to send a letter in Western Europe. For that price your letter will arrive in around 3-4 weeks. You can send your letter or a postcard using any of light blue post boxes on the streets or directly at the post office (better). Sending an average (around 500gm) parcel costs around $15.
