In Russia, the square is called Krasnaya Ploschad. The word krasnaya means both "red" and "beautiful", much of Russia's turbulent history has played here. This may be the most famous square in the world. The Kremlin walls and Lenin's tomb stand on one side, on another stands GUM, Russia's largest department store. At night floodlights illuminate the square and the red stars atop the Kremlin towers are lit from inside.
St. Basil's Cathedral
It is located at one end of Red Square, just across from the Spasskaya Tower of the Kremlin. The Cathedral consists of nine chapels built on a single foundation. The Cathedral is now a museum. Kremlin
Inside is a complex of cathedrals, palaces, and government offices. Tourists have access to the Patriarch's Palace and the State Kremlin Palace, Armoury museum, coronation robes, the Presidium and most of the buildings in the northern half of the fortress.
Lenin's mausoleum has been made of red, black, and grey granite. Visitors may not carry cameras or large bags, put your hands in your pockets is considered disrespectful. The uniformed police officers reprimand to visitors when they wear unbuttoned collars or other sloppiness of dress. Address: Red Square, Moscow Open: 10 am.-1 pm. St. Danilov's Monastery
The oldest monastery in Moscow and the seat of Russian Orthodox Church. Moscow's six major monasteries were all protected by thick, high walls and towers that together formed a defensive half-ring around the city.

Bolshoi Theatre
The building itself is a piece of Russian neoclassicism, the seats on the balcony offer a great view of the rococo interior, replete with chandeliers, gold stucco, and red velvet.
