Gonacharov public garden was established on the place of former Church in the name of the God Ascension. Since the second half of the 17th century the church was wooden, and in 1729 - 1769 - stone. In this church was christened I.A. Goncharov. In 1844 the church was raised to degree of a parish of Spaso-Voznesensky cathedral.
Monument to Destroyed Temples of Simbirsk
Monument to destroyed temples of Simbirsk was opened on the 5th of October 2006. Poklonny Cross, established in 1999 at Goncharova Str., was substituted for a multideck chapel with gilded cupola and the cross. 9 meter monument was made of steel, copper and gold leaf by blacksmiths of Simbirsk blacksmith’s manufactory «Korch».
Monument of Eternal Glory
The monument is made in two planes: on the upper plane is placed 47-meters obelisk, is situated a wide ceremonial stairs and multi-figure sculpture group, representing warriors, freezing in a rush attack. On the lower one in granite square is mounted bronze cup of Eternal Fire, and on granite wall are inscribed names of 57 Ulyanovsk citizens, the Heroes of the Soviet Union.
Monument to K. Marks
The monument to K.Marks was opened on the 7th of November 1921. It is one of the first sculpture images of K.Marks in the Soviet Russia. Authors of the monument are the soviet sculptor S.D. Merkorov and the architect, Professor V.A. Schuko.
Monument to Nariman Narimanov
The monument to N. Narimanov was opened in Ulyanovsk in 1977. It is a gift of workers from Azerbaijan SSR and it is placed in the avenue, named in honor of this statesman, writer and publicist. The monument is made as a high-relief of Narimanov against the background of stylized flag made of red polished granite.
Monument to Victims of Repressions
The monument represents a part of a concentration camp wall with barbed wire and searchlight. It is situated near the building which was earlier occupied by People's Commissariat of Internal Affairs. As is well known to Ulyanovsk citizens, in the cellars of the building of People's Commissariat of Internal Affairs during the years of mass communist terror were shot people.
Obelisk in Honour of Deceased during the Civil War
In Venets during 1918-1922 were buried several dozens of people, deceased during the Civil War. In that way, there was formed a certain privileged cemetery in the center of the city. In 1927 the graves were made even and on the common grave was erected a monument to Red Army soldiers, perished in battles for Simbirsk release in 1918.
Park of Nation’s Frineship
The Park of Nations' Friendship is an essential part of the Lenin memorial complex, built in Ulyanovsk to the 100-years anniversary of V.I. Lenin's birthday. Its functional purpose is to show unity, equality, brotherhood of USSR nations by means of natural ornamental plants and small architectural forms.
Public Garden of I.N. Ulyanov
In 1869 to the city of Simbirsk was appointed Ilya Nikolaevich Ulyanov as an inspector of national schools. By that time in the Simbirsk region was counted 89 more or less well organized primary public schools.
